Lieutenant Anton Tolliver is the Atreides recruiter in Hagga Basin South. He recruits players towards his own faction while throwing insults and barbs at his nearby Harkonnen rival, Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir
Lore
Lieutenant Anton Tolliver was born on Caladan and orphaned at a young age. He was taken under the wing of an Atreides Flag Officer named Katrina Chloros and trained to become a soldier. Katrina became a mentor and a deeply important figure of Atreides honor to Anton. Later in life and through his training, Anton became deeply committed to the noble virtues of House Atreides, with honor and duty describing much of his life in service to Duke Leto Atreides.
War on Arrakis
When the Atreides were sent to Arrakis, Anton had dreamed that he would find himself fighting a grand battle alongside the likes of Duncan Idaho and Duke Leto. Or at the very least he would be honored in one of Gurney Halleck's songs should he make the ultimate sacrifice. Anton instead found himself assigned to military intelligence, handling lower-level espionage under his direct superior, Mentat Andrea Ganan.
At the Anvil tradepost, Anton Tolliver spends a great deal of his days recruiting local mercenaries or job-seekers for various contracts. Most of these tasks involve sending the agent into the War of Assassins. The high casualties that Anton's recruited agents take and the inglorious actions forced upon him in the espionage war weighs heavily on his psyche, so much so that Anton finds himself deeply troubled by the close resemblance of his own actions against that of his Harkonnen counterpart, Maxim Kazmir.
Anton does not have much free time to keep his mind away from such thoughts, what scant free time he has he spends listening to the Atreides Communinet broadcasts. He finds the serials rather naive after so many years of warfare on Arrakis, but still enjoys the poetry.
Deserter Sickness
Anton Tolliver's growing disillusionment with his role and the direction of the war came to a breaking point when he learned that his mentor, Katrina Chloros, had deserted from her position. While smuggling suspicious cargo for another member of the Atreides military, Katrina's ship and convoy were shot down in an ambush. After refusing to abandon her surviving crew without assistance from her superiors while they suffered from a terrible malady, Katrina deserted and died shortly after.
Learning of this, Anton was overcome with grief over the desertion and loss of his mentor, as well as anger towards his superiors who he believes failed in the principles of honor he held so dearly. His faith in House Atreides was shattered and he deserted shortly thereafter.
