Wiki Staff Org Chart

The Dune: Awakening Community Wiki is maintained entirely by fans of the game, who volunteer their time and skills. While Funcom actively supports the wiki, it is still an independent community-driven project and the staff team have full autonomy over the destiny of the site.

Ranks

Rank names are inspired by Dune lore, and the staff are collectively known as The Archivist Guild. It consists of the Director, their close Lieutenants (Hands) and the remaining staff, spread across two major specialisations:

  • Archivists - People who are involved more on the technical side of the wiki - writing articles, reviewing mission submissions, seeking knowledge from the game etc.
  • Emissaries - People who are involved more with the community side of the wiki - engaging the Wiki Discord community, social media/outreach, running events etc.

Both of these groups share an equal rank, and staff can choose to follow either speciality, and are free to switch at any time. Within each group, there are further specialist roles. A staff member is free to choose any number of these specialist roles, even across groups.

Leadership

The leader of the wiki staff is the Director of the Archive. This is FlamingMojo who serves as Head Admin, deciding the primary direction of the project, handling the website hosting, liaising with Funcom and other partners to ensure the wiki's success.

The Director has several close lieutenants, chosen for exemplary dedication to the project, to delegate the day-to-day management tasks to. These are known as the Hands of the Archive and serve as second-in-command, with broad administrative powers over both the website and Discord server, plus other tools. The two Hands are Sorahawk and BradW, and are the primary point of escalation for Archivists and Emissaries respectively.

The leadership structure of the wiki is deliberately flat, and the leaders serve the community, with their mandate - in accordance with the Rules. Nobody, not even the Director, is above the rules.

Archivists

The Archivists handle the more technical side of the wiki, and there are several specialist roles they may have:

  • Truthsayers - Expert proofreaders, fact-checkers and translation reviewers
  • Council Chroniclers - Lore experts and content writers, chronicling in-game lore and beefing up pages
  • Communinet Technicians - Covering all official communiqués from Funcom - Patch Notes, Communinet Signals, Developer Updates and more
  • Ixian Artificers - Tinkerers of wiki formatting, templates, modules and raw game data extracts
  • Mentat Inquisitors - Fact-finders and gatherers, going into the game to find and verify information

Emissaries

Emissaries are a newer staff group, and handle more of the community side of the wiki. Specialist roles include:

  • Imperial Heralds - Managing the wiki social media presence
  • Landsraad Docents - Managing internal community events, engagement and projects
  • Guild Ambassadors - Handling outreach, spreading the good word of the wiki and drawing attention to pages, events and the mission system
  • Sardaukar Bashars - Specialising in moderation of the Discord and Wiki, to keep the peace

Initiates

Community members who have shown they can be consistently active and display a willingness to help the project may be invited to the staff team. When there is a specific recruitment drive, the Director and Hands will provide methods of applying to become staff in the Wiki Discord.

All staff start as Initiates. Effectively this is a trial period of 2-4 weeks where cultural fit, consistency and reliability are evaluated. If successful, and with the consensus of the existing staff team, initiates are promoted to either Archivist or Emissary depending on their preference and skill set.
