Tyros Reffa was the half-brother to Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV, being the illegitimate child of Elrood Corrino IX and Shando Vernius. He is the father of Bronso Vernius, and has several generations of ghola formed from him, including The Sleeper and the Player themselves.

Pre-game history

The history of Tyros aligns with established canon, the game lore builds upon these events and slightly reframes them. In summary:

As all nobles, his bloodline was groomed by the Bene Gesserit and ancestors schooled in various schools. However personally, he had no real ambition for the Golden Lion throne and chose a vocation as a Jongleur to entertain people and remain out of sight of the wider Imperium. He chose Zanovar as his home, given it was a 'pleasure planet' under the fiefdom of House Taligari

When the Emperor learned of the existence of Tyros, he ordered the whole planet of Zanovar to be destroyed by the Sardaukar. Tyros was not on the planet at the the but when he learned of the destruction, he and his Jongleur troop performed at Kaitain where during Tyros' speech exposing the truth, a Sardaukar bodyguard next to the Emperor was inadvertently killed by a ruby laser staff.

Tyros was incarcerated, tortured and executed by the Emperor, however managed to smuggle a recording of his speech to Ixian Ambassador Cammar Pilru, which was used to blackmail the Emperor into paying restitutions to Ix.

In-game lore

The Tleilaxu managed to obtain Tyros' corpse, with the intent of creating Ghola of him which would give them a legitimate claim to the throne, given legal precedent to a Ghola holding the rights to their genetic heritage. Although Tyros was ignored by the Bene Gesserit, he could have been a potential candidate as a Kwisatz Haderach, or at least when combined with Tleilaxu genetic engineering, be crafted into one.

Ghola

In total they created six batches of ghola, each iteration improving and adapting based on the failures of the previous. As ghola are not born with the memories or full capabilities of the person they were grown from, the Tleilaxu wanted to 'Awaken' the innate potential from Tyros' bloodline.

The early generations

The first batch on Tleilax were poorly grown and perished, while the second batch were functional beings but were quickly shown to be psychologically unstable as a result of the Emperor's torture of Tyros, and were disposed of.

The Third Generation

The third generation was grown on Tleilax but shipped to the lab beneath Old Carthag, to mix with the general population. The researchers believed Arrakis was far enough away from the eyes of the Imperium that the ghola would go unnoticed. However as these all bore Tyros' face they were recognised by Count Fenring - who investigated the Tleilaxu operation and ordered the destruction of Carthag entirely

The Fourth Generation

With the destruction of Carthag only one member of the 4th generation survived, the last to bear his natural appearance, but he escaped into the desert. This last member did not have any additional imprinting or hypno-ligation control and is known as The Sleeper. As per the Codex he is the "Sum of forty fears", FORTY FEARS being an anagram of TYROS REFFA

The Fifth Generation

The Fifth generation were given new compulsions and faces, specifically with the mission to 'Find the Fremen' - given Bronso Vernius could be a trigger, and 'Wake the Sleeper' as the Tleilaxu wanted to regain their last surviving member with Tyros' face. However the compulsions caused these ghola to slowly go insane, whilst also being vulnerable to others controlling them like Count Fenring. The last members of this generation were:

The Sixth Generation

The final generation were grown in the orbital facility, given new appearances and backgrounds and the compulsion was refined to be more stable. Additionally a failsafe compulsion was added to force the ghola to try commit suicide if they saw the face of Count Fenring. Canonically there are 40 members to this generation (the population of a Hagga Basin instance).

This leaves The Player as the sole surviving ghola of Tyros Reffa, with a technical claim to the Golden Lion throne, and sharing the same genetic potential as a Kwisatz Haderach.
