House Corrino
House Corrino is a House Major and the ruling Imperial House, with Shaddam Corrino IV as the 81st Padishah Emperor.
Its elite force is composed of Imperial Sardaukar legions.
Lore
House Corrino was founded at the conclusion of the Butlerian Jihad, shortly after the Battle of Corrin.
Faykan Butler adopted the name Corrino in honour of the battle and was crowned Padishah Emperor, which marked the beginning of the Imperium.
Before the Battle of Arrakeen
Fearful of the growing power of House Atreides, House Corrino secretly conspired to depose them. Emperor Shaddam IV gifted House Atreides the imperial fief of Arrakis, taken from their rival House Harkonnen.
Knowing this public display would force House Harkonnen to react, the Emperor secretly assisted House Harkonnen by offering the use of Sardaukar legions, disguised in Harkonnen livery, to facilitate the failed invasion of Arrakeen. House Atreides suspects the use of Sardaukar in the battle, but has been unable to provide proof.
After the Battle of Arrakeen
Following the successful defense, House Atreides petitioned the Landsraad against their rivals. In response, Emperor Shaddam IV declared a War of Assassins over the fate of the planet.
With production of Spice Melange at risk, the Padishah Emperor ordered his Sardaukar legions to Arrakis to protect spice harvesting operations. The Fremen, who constantly harried spice production, were massacred in a Sardaukar pogrom on orders of the Padishah Emperor.
Present
His Imperial Majesty Shaddam IV Corrino rules the Known Universe. The Sardaukar remain in force on Arrakis, combing the deserts for any surviving Fremen and ensuring the Guild Peace between the Great Houses in the settlements of Arrakeen and Harko Village. House Corrino benefits greatly from the ongoing War of Assassins, much to the chagrin of its combatants.
Count Hasimir Fenring was appointed as the Judge of the Change following the outbreak of the War of Assassins between House Atreides and House Harkonnen. Also, he commands the Sardaukar on Arrakis, which ensures they do not get 'too far off the leash.' He is ultimately responsible for the production of spice melange on Arrakis.
Despite the official neutrality of House Corrino, Count Fenring has meddled in local affairs. Fenring is known to have put a significant amount of money into the moonfish industry. House Harkonnen blighted and crippled the industry in an attempt to damage their rivals of House Atreides. However, House Harkonnen damaged Count Fenring's interests in the process, which caused tensions to rise between the Count and the Baron.
In-Game
- Military presence
During Book 1, House Corrino's presence on Arrakis is limited to Sardaukar legions, which are restricted by Kanly from engaging in the War of Assassins.
Nighttime patrol dropships are piloted by Sardaukar troops in Hagga Basin. These ships deploy CHOAM mercenaries on the ground after spotting the player with their searchlight. Once on the ground, mercenaries target the player and any NPCs in the surrounding area, such as those in a camp or an outpost.
The player engages in combat with visions of Sardaukar, during the Fourth Trial of Aql, in the early-game.
- Civilian presence
Within Arrakeen and Harko Village, the settlement's Imperial Consulate is guarded by 2 to 3 Sardaukar Bators and numerous Sardaukar Troopers. Tamzin Flaxenraad (Arrakeen) and Ehri Gan (Harko Village) are Imperial Treasurers operating out of the Consulate and previously collected subfief taxes to the Padishah Emperor.
Whithin Hagga Basin, Imperial Planetologist Derek Chinara offers to train the player in exchange for a series of contracts, which are tied to clues within Testing Stations concerning Liet Kynes' disappearance. Derek's alleged superior, Cyprian Io, an Imperial Planetologist and grand-nephew of the Padishah Emperor, is operating out the Salusan Bull located in Arraken.
- Half-brother to the Emperor and father to many
While Tyros Reffa is not an official member of House Corrino, he is the half-brother to Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV, due to being the illegitimate child of Elrood Corrino IX and Shando Vernius. During the events of Book 1, his bloodline is revealed to include his son Bronso Vernius (Zantara), and several generations of Gholas formed from his corpse including The Sleeper and the Player (yourself).
- Imminent arrival
At the conclusion of Book 1, aboard a Sardaukar Orbital Bastion, the Eye of Salusa, Count Hasimir Fenring tells Lady Margot Fenring of the Emperor's upcoming arrival to Arrakis, which would ruin their plans. The Emperor is expected to arrive alongside his truthsayer, a Bene Gesserit.
Following a dialogue segment with Count Fenring, the player fights Sardaukar troops, while trying to escape the Bastion.
