Lore
During the Sardaukar pogrom of 10195 A.G., Imperial forces began a systematic eradication of the Fremen across Arrakis. During the Imperial effort, a Fremen man named Kaleff was cornered and trapped by the Sardaukar at a small cave and rock formation in the southern region of the Hagga Basin. For weeks Kaleff survived their attacks and endured efforts to slay him, only venturing forth from this cave to hunt his enemy using his modified kindjal to drain their blood to sustain himself. His efforts eventually fell to the Sardaukar, and they seized the unique blade from his remains.
Below this monument is this cave is landmark called Kaleff's Stand, where he was defeated by Sardaukar.
Trivia
Kaleff is a reference to (and possibly is) the Fremen of the same name from Frank Herbert's Dune. In the novel, he is the son of Harah, and adopted son of Jamis. Being ten years old in the events of the book, this would place him at fourteen years old during the time of the Sardaukar pogrom in Dune: Awakening.
