Dune: Awakening features a distinct timeline split from the original canon that everyone is already familiar with.
In the game:
- Paul Atreides[1] is never born. Instead, Lady Jessica follows the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood's orders and has a daughter, Ariste Atreides, aligned with the Order's aim of achieving a Kwisatz Haderach[2].
- Dr. Yueh is exposed before his betrayal, as Lady Jessica was trained as a truthsayer, having remained loyal to the Bene Gesserit.
- The Duke is able to prepare House Atreides for battle, and they survive the ambush on Arrakis by the Harkonnens and Sardaukar.
- Arrakis erupts into a War of Assassins.
- To protect spice production on Arrakis, the Emperor deploys his Sardaukar forces.
- The Fremen are missing, supposedly exterminated by the Sardaukar, or so they say...
