Wiki:Style Guide

From Dune: Awakening Community Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is the style guide for the Dune: Awakening Community Wiki to ensure standardisation and consistency across the pages of the wiki. This generally follows guidance of the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Generally speaking, contributors should follow the guidance listed there for grammar, punctuation and vocabulary, except where it would conflict with the below points, which take priority.

Special Characters

  • Use straight quotes and apostrophes (' "), not curly/smart ones ( ). This avoids duplicate pages and templating issues.
  • Use hyphens (-) instead of en dashes (). They look nearly identical; hyphens are easier to type, and are more template-friendly.

Headings

  • Every page should start with an opening paragraph to introduce the subject, provide a bit of wider context, and allow link previews to have something to display.
  • Do not use = h1 = headings as every page already has a h1.
  • == h2 == headings should be used for top-level categories, then === h3 === for subcategories.
  • Do not go any lower than ==== h4 ====. Most pages won't need to go lower than 3 anyway.
  • At the bottom of each page, include references with a header:
{{References}}

Images

  • Where possible, include at least one image, as it helps with embeds and gives visual context.
  • ALL images should include ALT text.

Writing

  • The default wiki language is English.
  • Writing style should be clear, concise and neutral - however this is still a game wiki, so it does not have to be overly formal.

Sourcing

  • Template:Inter can be utilised when linking to articles on the game's official webpage, the Dune Wiki, as well as Wikipedia.
  • For other reference sources, tags <ref>URL</ref> should be used to attach external links as sources. Do NOT link them directly on the text, i.e. [https://URL DisplayLabel].
